On Monday June 28, the International Association of Culinary Professionals announced the finalists of the prestigious IACP awards on their website. Winners will be announced at its annual conference on Saturday, October 23 in Birmingham, AL. This year’s conference will feature events and programming on the campus of Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark and The Market at Pepper Place.
The Executive Awards Committee and Subcommittees led by IACP’s former co-director, Paola Briseño-González, updated policies and procedures this year to continue to enhance the rigor of the awards program and maintain its position as one of the most prestigious in the industry. These changes included increasing transparent processes and stringent ethical rules. The organization also continued efforts to make the awards more accessible by offering a free entry period for digital categories, food writing, food photography and styling, as well as reduced entry fees in the cookbook award program.
The IACP Awards continued its partnership with The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts to provide free entries into the IACP Julia Child First Book Award and award $5,000 to the author of a first cookbook. Our hope is that these efforts make the awards more accessible, and increase the diversity of the pool of candidates.
This year, IACP launched a new award category: best newsletter in the digital media award program led by chair Meesha Halm. The organization also updated the Narrative Beverage and Narrative Food Writing categories in the food writing award program chaired by food critic Patric Kuh. The food photography and styling program was overseen by an impressive group of judges led by acclaimed food photographer Con Poulos. The cookbook category was chaired by Chandra Ram who oversaw submissions in fifteen different categories from an incredibly diverse group of cookbook authors. Chandra was helped by her dedicated team of Super Judges, Hal B. Klein, Jacqui Pressinger, Julia Skinner, Cheryl Slocum, and Stephanie Swane.
The winners of the 2021 IACP Awards will be announced during the annual conference on Saturday, October 23 in Birmingham, AL. For more information, to purchase conference passes, and for a schedule and roster of conference speakers, please visit the conference website and sign up to IACP’s newsletter for updates.
